Island Wedding of Our Dreams!

A great experience for our wedding at Dragon's Lodge on Gabriola Island. Tanya, the house manager, was an amazing help. She was kind, flexible, and supportive through the pandemic planning of our wedding and we even hired her for the day of the wedding. She was a fabulous help! The venue itself has the most stunning view and is such a great property. Our friends absolutely loved the venue and the wedding.

If you are looking for a west-coast inspired, rustic wedding, look no further!

Dragon's lodge is the most special venue. We had tofino on the brain originally, and spent a lot of time looking into venues that would bring us close to nature, and serve to host about 50 people for an intimate close family and friends semi-destination wedding. When we arrived in early June to scope out this venue, we instantly knew it was the one!

Our wedding was very much DIY, and we hosted a couple group meals on Thursday/Friday, using the beautiful fully stocked kitchen and the patio facing the ocean! The big day was on Saturday, and everything went perfectly with the help of Tanya the building manager, who we also hired as our day of co-ordinator!

We did a big costco shop to stock up for snacks and breakfast items and provided a "nightly rate" to our guests because the lodge is a 4-night site rental. We charged just enough per night to help balance out the cost of the rental and provided a continental breakfast.

We only used about 8 cabins, as most of our guests weren't as adventurous as we predicted, but there was also one RV on site as well! The lodge is on septic, and my maid of honor made an announcement early on, just to let people know to be gentle with water use. Tanya also provided lovely little makeup wipes in every room. And there were two filled filtered water jugs when we arrived. Heads up, the water is very salty on island because it was well-water. Overall, this whole weekend was exactly as we imagined. My friends and family raved about the uniqueness and beauty of this site! It made our wedding very special.

Having enjoyed several special events at the Dragon’s Lodge, I can certainly attest to this lovely venue’s spectacular location and it’s versatility.

This oceanfront property lends itself very well to functions of varioius sizes, but is extremely well-suited to mid-sized, intimate gatherings. The lodge itself is warm and inviting, the deck is large and provides additional room for guests to mingle, and the grounds, including the cliffs overlooking the ocean, offer amazing and ever-changing views – a property not to miss!

Our experience with Dragon’s Lodge was nothing short of perfection, from beginning to end. We found the Dragon’s Lodge staff to be relentlessly accommodating in all of our requests to drop by in advance for visits and for supplying all of the information that we required.

We rented the lodge for four days to host our guests at our Gabriola wedding. We used every cabin and every room to accommodate our guests from all across the globe. Having everyone together in such an idyllic, relaxed atmosphere for those few days was pure bliss. We received comments throughout the weekend regarding the incredible location and the many amenities. Our guests were so impressed that this became a regular topic of conversation.

If I were to stretch my mind to think of one negative aspect of our experience, it would be how hard it was to drive away from the Dragon’s Lodge once the event was over. Fortunately, the memory of those four days will be with us forever.

I think one moment will always have a special significance for us: the warm, calm, and quiet evening after the ceremony when we gave our speeches on the patio with the backdrop of the Salish Sea and the coastal mountains behind us. You couldn’t ask for better wedding photos than these.

Dragon’s Lodge provides a luxurious accommodation for any event that would simply be impossible to find anywhere else. The combination of the historic building, the variety of different sleeping options that are available, and one of the most attractive spots on Gabriola Island, let alone the west coast, are simply unparalleled. We can only hope to have the pleasure of hosting another event there in the future.

We had an amazing wedding weekend at Dragon’s Lodge! The setting is spectacular and the lodge was the perfect venue for our ceremony and reception dinner. It was so much fun to have our family and friends stay right on the property.

Everyone had such a great time!

Our wedding was at the Dragon's Lodge on Gabriola. It's a secluded house that sits on a cliff overlooking across the strait! It's absolutely breathtaking! It's also big enough to fit most of your wedding guests! If you're looking for a weekend celebration with all your favourite people, this is the perfect venue! Check our wedding photos here!

❥ Sharon Robert

Beautuful site for get togethers. Well supplied, with kitchen supplies, very nice cozy rooms, clean washrooms, large banquet room, beautiful view of Ocean and Cruise Ships passing by in the evening. Beautiful Gabriola.

The perfect venue for your fairy tale wedding. Overlooking the Strait of Georgia, flanked by stunning rocky shores and beautiful arbutus forest - you won't forget your time spent here. The interior is well kept and feels modern.

There are plenty of windows, allowing you to gaze endlessly out to sea from any room you end up in.

Friends hosted a wedding here, it was a lovely place to visit and party. Secluded cabins with cots if you're into that kind of thing and a large lodge with hotel comforts if you're not. It was a great place to stay, and they had an extensive kitchen in which we cooked. It was very fun! Good hiking, some rocky beaches and lots of photo opportunities!

Quiet, private lodge. Rentable year round. Amazing views and 30 feet from the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

We attended a wedding at Dragons Lodge (late April). The building is nice inside and well maintained, as are the grounds and outbuildings. The view is incredible and made for a picturesque backdrop for a wedding and subsequent photos. There is a stunning cliff face, and also a spot to access the beach/water. The small cabins surrounding the larger home are cute and quaint but have no power, heat or plumbing and could fit two people on camping style cots if you bring your own bedding. A cute spot for guests to retire after the event. We didn't stay on the property over night like most of the guests and wedding party so we can't speak to the beds/linens, etc. The kitchen was a great size for catering large events, and the parking area was adequate for a large guest list. Beautiful spot for an event or family gathering!

Artistic Director, Poetry Gabriola Society

On behalf of the board of directors and myself I would like to thank you all so much for allowing Poetry Gabriola to hold our 7th Annual PG Festival at the Dragon’s Lodge. The venue was outstanding and was the perfect fit for what we are doing. The audience, artists, volunteers, board, press – everyone was talking about how fabulous the lodge was and how perfect it was for the festival!

We had a very successful weekend, selling out nearly every event and exceeding our ticket sales and revenue expectations by approximately 20%. This allows us to enter 2011 with a reserve of cash that means we can think about having a festival in 2011, even though our provincial funding was cut by $20,000 (through the elimination of the Direct Access gaming program by the gov’t of B.C.).

We feel extremely lucky to have had the community support that we received – both through sponsorships and enthusiasm over the event. The venue was definitely a big part of the magic!

I have been forwarding links to Victor Anthony’s slideshow as it evolves. The latest version is here if you haven’t seen it yet.

Thanks especially to Sharon, who was a tremendous help as we tried to figure out how to fit in to a new place, and also for permission to come in on the afternoon before opening night so we could complete our tech set-up.
